Mission Statement

We deeply love tattooing here at the Pearl Street Tattoo Club. There are not many autonomous decisions you can make to permanently change the way you look, and respecting those changes is very important to us. While we love tattooing, we remain aware of the problematic history and the issues present in tattoo culture today. As such, having a tattoo shop that openly expresses our values is necessary! We want people to feel welcome, respected, and safe in our tattoo space. All are welcome, always!

This is why the Pearl Street Tattoo Club will always be:

Anti-racist, pro-LGBTQIA+, anti-transphobic, anti-misogynistic, body-positive, pro-science & disability, and neurodivergent-friendly.

Aisha & Arran are the husband and wife team behind the Pearl Street Tattoo Club!

The couple moved from the United Kingdom to the Boston area in 2019 because Aisha landed her dream job at Tufts Medical as a Placenta Scientist.

Aisha (she/her) has a Ph.D. in developmental biology and is undoubtedly the brain behind the operation. As an accomplished scientist, Aisha has contributed to science through research papers and presented at international conferences, all while maintaining perfect dyed hair!

As a woman of colour in the body modification scene, she recognised the need for an openly inclusive tattoo shop that is safe and welcoming to everyone.

Aisha’s interests include jamming to 2000’s RnB, making her friends look immaculate with her hair dye skills, and dodgeball. She played for the varsity team while at university!

Arran (he/him) has been tattooing since 2016 and has been interested in art for as long as he can remember. His Neotraditional tattoo style draws from the tattoo world but is influenced by Comic Book art, Renaissance Paintings, Gothic Architecture, Album covers, Lowbrow art from the ’90s, and Skate Graphics. Meanwhile, his lettering is influenced by Graffiti art, logos for Metal bands, and the Medieval Gothic lettering still visible on buildings in the area he grew up.

Before tattooing, Arran played the drums in punk bands and made graphics and flyers for bands in the UK punk scene. He’s been vegan for around four years now and endeavours to keep his tattoo process free from animal cruelty.

Aisha & Arran quickly bonded over their shared love of tattooing and body modification, angry bands with weird time signatures, and Science Fiction. They share their house with an elderly yet incredibly chatty cat named Mildred.

Our Goals

Inclusivity

At the Pearl Street Tattoo Club, we firmly believe tattoos are for anyone and everyone who wants them! We will always showcase work on various skin tones so you can see how our artists' various styles work with different skin tones.

We offer free, no strings attached color tests to our BIPOC clientele so you can see how different colors heal and interact before committing to a full-color tattoo.

In an effort to save our clients time and labour, we require all of our artists have a story highlight on their Instagram page showcasing their work on darker skin tones.

An essential part of the shop’s mission is to promote the changes we want to see in our community and world. We expect all of our staff to take advantage of this and be vocal about human rights issues.

We will use our platform to raise awareness of issues in the tattoo scene and the wider world. We will also share steps allies can take to address and improve on these issues.

We have a short intake form as part of our booking system. You can let us know of any accommodations we will need to make for your visit, from accessibility needs to sensory requirements. Even if you would just prefer a quieter tattoo appointment or for your tattoo not to be posted on social media, we are always happy to respect your boundaries and give you the tattoo experience you need.

Community

As part of our initiative to create a welcoming tattoo space, we will be hosting tattoo events to raise funds for local charities. Please contact us if you have any suggestions of where to donate. We always welcome new suggestions!

Along with hosting fundraising and promotional events, we will be attending events where we can! We want to use our artistic talents to benefit the community and raise funds by painting faces for donation, talking about the tattoo scene and tattooing as a career, painting murals, etc. Again, if you’d like us at your event or have any suggestions, please e-mail us at hello@pearlstreettattoo.com!

Accountability

An essential part of our mission is holding ourselves accountable. If you experience an issue with one of our artists or staff, find something we’ve said or posted on social media problematic, or see an area we could improve on, PLEASE let us know!

We always aim to hold ourselves accountable and look for ways to grow and improve our shop and the tattoo experience we provide. As such, we are forever grateful for any advice, comments, and criticisms you have for us.
